Published by Elsevier, this report is based on a survey of nearly 3,000 professionals from 123 countries, capturing their expectations, benefits, and concerns regarding AI's role in their work.
Key Points from the Report:
Growing Adoption of AI: - A vast majority of researchers (94%) and clinicians (96%) anticipate AI will significantly accelerate knowledge discovery in the next two to five years. - 87% believe AI will enhance the overall quality of their work, while 85% think it will allow them to focus on higher-value projects by freeing up their time.
Importance of Trusted Content: - 71% of respondents emphasize the necessity for AI tools to rely on high-quality, trusted sources. - If AI tools are backed by credible content and responsible AI principles, 89% of researchers and 94% of clinicians would use them for generating article syntheses and assessing medical symptoms, respectively.
Concerns About Misinformation and Errors: - 95% of researchers and 93% of clinicians worry about AI being used for spreading misinformation. - Concerns about AI causing critical errors and weakening critical thinking were expressed by 86% of researchers and 85% of clinicians. - Additionally, 79% of clinicians and 80% of researchers fear that AI could lead to societal disruption.
The report underscores a cautious optimism among professionals about the integration of AI in research and healthcare, highlighting the potential benefits while also pointing out significant concerns that need to be addressed to build trust and ensure the ethical use of AI technologies.
